Yesterday (18 January) the South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership were thrilled to host University Academy Holbeach's F1 in Schools teams at Holbeach Food Enterprise Zone to pitch for funding - Dragons Den style!
Led by Physics teacher, Ben O'Donovan, Zoomster Racers from Year 9 and Star Racers from Year 8, showcased their progress during a very professional presentation using PowerPoint and some impressive public speaking skills, to persuade our panel of Dragons to invest further in their project to purchase a 3D printer to help with their design progress ready for the East Midlands Regional Finals at Boston College in March where they will be competing.
After a tense series of questions, our Dragons, Cllr Nick Worth, Deputy Leader of South Holland District Council, Michelle Sacks, Deputy Chief Executive (Growth) at South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership and Richard Fletton, Engineering Manager at Horizon Agriculture, all agreed that they showed passion and skills way beyond their years and awarded them £1,000, with the condition that they will return to share their progress in six months' time.
Michelle said: "The teams we saw today were very impressive. Their maturity was incredible and as they explained how they designed the various cars, the changes they had made and for what reasons, their passion shone through. These young people are the pipeline of talent that will be supporting #growth #expansion #aspiration for our businesses in the future."
