South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership support World Homeless Day 2023

The reasons people become homeless are often complex and may be related to relationship breakdowns, family eviction or loss of private rented accommodation. The three Councils have dedicated support teams who provide a vital service individually for people experiencing difficulties with their current housing situation.

The Councils have rolled out multiple initiatives in recent years to support those experiencing difficulties with their housing and help them secure a life off the streets for good, as well as supporting people who are at risk of homelessness.  As a result, many people have been prevented from becoming homeless or assisted to obtain a home.

Some of the other work the Councils are doing to tackle homelessness and end rough sleeping may include:

·        Support for former rough sleepers and those at risk of sleeping rough

·        Rough sleeper Intervention Team

·        More temporary accommodation

·        Regular face to face advice and support for those on the street

·        Self-referral help and support available

·        Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP)

Not all rough sleepers will accept our help and support, however, Council colleagues continue to try to work closely with these people to help them with any immediate needs such as access to health services and, relocation to where they have connections and any other assistance they need.

South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership encourages people to report anyone they think might be sleeping rough via our dedicated teams. Anyone at risk of becoming homeless should contact us immediately so we can start to support and help you before homeless becomes a reality.

Portfolio Holders for Housing inc Homelessness across the Partnership, Cllr John Baxter, Boston Borough Council; Cllr William Gray, East Lindsey District Council and Cllr Tracey Carter, South Holland District Council said: "World Homeless Day gives us all the opportunity to reflect on the how hard it is for people and how we can provide the right level of help. No one should be sleeping rough and teams are working daily to try and help those that reach out to us for support, giving everyone a chance at living a healthy and happy life.
